The Introduction of Black Fused Alumina

Origin of the Name of Black Fused Alumina

Corundum, the name originated in India, is a mineralogy name. The molecular formula of corundum is Al2O3. Its isomorphism mainly has three variants, namely α-Al2O3, β-Al2O3, and γ-Al2O3. Pure corundum is colorless. Black fused alumina, the literal intuitive understanding is black corundum. Black fused alumina presents black when corundum contains a suitable proportion of Fe2O3; when corundum contains a certain proportion of Cr2O3, it presents red, which is ruby; when corundum contains a certain proportion of TiO2, it presents blue, which is sapphire. Most of the corundum in black fused alumina is α-Al2O3.

Black fused alumina is a flexible wear-resistant material mainly used for surface treatment of various workpieces. Black fused alumina is natural, but the black fused alumina mentioned now basically refers to artificial black fused alumina.

Black fused alumina is a gray-black microcrystalline polycrystalline with α-Al2O3 and iron spinel as the main mineral phases, which is made by high-iron bauxite or high-alumina bauxite plus high-iron bauxite and other raw materials, smelted at high temperature in an electric arc furnace, and then cooled. Then, it is crushed, impurity-removed, cleaned, and sorted to obtain a wear-resistant material mainly used for surface treatment of various workpieces. Professionally manufactured black fused alumina is based on the actual application effect, the composition and manufacturing process of the raw materials used in the manufacturing are optimized, and the quality control system is continuously improved to achieve stable and improved performance products.

Characteristics and Uses of Black Fused Alumina

Black fused alumina has the characteristics of moderate hardness, good toughness, and strong self-sharpening. When black fused alumina is used for surface treatment of various workpieces, less grinding heat is generated, and it is not easy to burn the surface of the workpiece. It is an energy-saving and environmentally friendly flexible abrasive.

The main uses of black fused alumina are grinding and polishing, making wear-resistant and non-slip pavement, making resin abrasives, and making coated abrasives. Black fused alumina is a wear-resistant material with its own characteristics; fine-grained pure black fused alumina has unique advantages in polishing; in terms of cutting, grinding and polishing functions, it can achieve better performance and higher cost-effectiveness when combined with other abrasives, and there is a lot of practical application space.

Black fused alumina abrasive is made of high-quality bauxite as the main raw material, with a small amount of reducing agent added, and then smelted at high temperature in an arc furnace. It is black in color. It has moderate hardness, high toughness, sharp wear-resistant edges and corners, strong self-sharpening, low heat generation during grinding, and high cleanliness of polished workpieces. Black fused alumina abrasive has concentrated basic materials, strong cutting force, high toughness, a combination of rigidity and flexibility, good wear resistance, and high work efficiency.

Black fused alumina abrasive is suitable for polishing and sandblasting of the bottom surface of stainless steel and metal products before electroplating. It is suitable for grinding and polishing of glass, bamboo, wood, stone and other products. Black fused alumina is widely used in tableware polishing industry, bottom surface polishing industry before electroplating, metal surface treatment industry, glass products industry, polishing of aluminum products and stainless steel. It is also a new condensing material for manufacturing resin grinding wheels and emery cloth. At present, it is most widely used in the fine polishing of medium-hardness materials such as stainless steel tableware and kitchenware, lamps and lanterns, motorcycle parts, and auto parts.
